#mondaymotivation: Joy Harjo
When choosing a poet to feature for Indigenous Peoples' Day, Joy Harjo races to mind. She is this year's Ruth Lilly Prize in Poetry recipient and her work, informed as it is by the women's rights and Indigenous rights movements, particularly resonates during these turbulent times.
In light of the Indigenous Peoples/Columbus Day dichotomy that surrounds this day, I'd like to share Harjo's prose poem, "Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings".
Listen to Harjo’s recent interview on Poetry Foundation’s Poetry Off the Shelf podcast to hear her discuss the relationship between her poetry and music, as well as the impact of the women's rights and Indigenous rights movements on her work.
